HOW DO YOU PUT OUT A FIRE IN A FIREPLACE?

OMG! its 4 in the morning im tired this fire has literally been going all night and will not go out! i dont wanna dump water in the fireplace cause i feel that is somehow not good to do, i tried fanning it and even blowing I AM TIRED and i do not want to be responsible for y my house is on fire HELP PLEASE!!
