Can you keep a society finch and...?

Yes, you can keep a male society finch and a male zebra finch in the same cage. I've kept the two different species of finches together (both males), and they did get along. I wouldn't buy a female society finch unless you plan on breeding them. Society finches (in addition to zebra finches) will breed like crazy if a male and female are together. Both species are excellent breeding birds. Look for a zebra finch with the bright orange cheek patches and you have yourself a male. Make sure the cage is large enough so they don't get into territorial squabbles.
